Catalytic Dehalogenation with Tritium Gas

Halogen atoms, preferably iodine or bromine, but also chlorine are catalytically exchanged in presence of a Pd catalyst, a base and tritium gas. This usually leads to labelling at predicted positions with high specific activity. The highest specific activity can be obtained by dehalogenation of iodine precursors (20-28 Ci/mmol), followed by bromine (14-25 Ci/mmol) and chlorine derivatives (8-16 Ci/mmol). Under these conditions fluorine atoms are not exchanged.
