handling c-14 manifold

Based on our many years of experience with tritium manifold systems, we have also developed high-vacuum manifold systems for 14CO2 . The 14CO2 systems consist of two connections for CO2 storage as well as connections for reaction flasks and distillation ampoules or a NaOH trap. In addition, connections for the inert gas supply, a Pirani pressure sensor and a precision absolute pressure sensor 0-4000 mbar are installed. The reaction branch with two glass connections enables the solvent to be removed cleanly in a separate glass ampoule by freeze-drying.  This is very important to ensure that only 14CO2 and no solvent is reabsorbed onto the molecular sieve bed.

The use of two molecular sieve reservoirs offers additional safety and manipulation options.

The advantages of our systems are obvious:

  • 14CO2 does not have to be freshly produced for each marking.
  • The desired 14CO2 pressure can be set via the heat-up temperature of the cylinder. It is also possible to work at overpressure.
  • Excess 14CO2 is reabsorbed into the molecular sieve storage tank once the reaction is complete. Emissions to the environment are thus largely minimised.
  • All components are made of stainless steel and guarantee maximum safety, reliability and tightness.
  • 14CO2 can be purchased directly from RC TRITEC AG storage facilities. This reduces the risk of handling large quantities of carbonate and minimises the amount of radioactive waste.
