Methylation

Methylations are a popular tool for labelling various functional groups due to their wide use and high specific activity (>75 Ci/mmol or >2.78 TBq/mmol). Methyl iodide (MeI) is the best known methylation reagent. In addition to the classic substitution reactions, methyl iodide is also used reliably in photocatalytic cross-couplings, Wittig olefinations or Grignard reactions.
