Simple reduction of tritium emissions thanks to Tritium Mini Scrubber

Uncontrolled release of T2 , HT, HTO and organically bound tritium must be avoided. Tritium manifold systems are normally connected to vacuum pumps whose exhaust gases are released into the environment with the exhaust air via the stack. In this way, small residual quantities of tritium activity - or larger quantities in the event of an accident - can escape.

The Tritium Mini Scrubber from RC Tritec collects all exhaust gases from the vacuum pump in its buffer tank. This ensures that no direct, uncontrolled release into the environment can occur.  A highly active catalyser and an isotope exchange and retention/absorption system treat the contents of the buffer tank in batches. Two separate circuits ensure a high retention factor of 105 to 106 . If the Tritium Mini Scrubber captures 100 GBq in the buffer tank, for example, the release is reduced to 0.1 to 1 MBq.

The absorption columns can absorb several TBq of activity before they need to be replaced. The absorption capacity of the buffer tank is sufficient for up to one month. The cleaning process takes between two and four hours.des Tritium Mini Scrubbers:

Advantages of the Tritium Mini Scrubber:

  • No uncontrolled release of tritium thanks to buffer system.
  • The dispensing activity is reduced by a factor of 105 to 106.
  • Compact, easy-to-operate unit.

Our Tritium Mini Scrubber is used worldwide by various research institutions, for example in the following publication:
