Storage & Stability

The initial rate of degradation of this compound, stored as received, at temperatures below -60 °C in the dark, is less than 1.5% per month starting from the date of purification. The decomposition of the compound is not linear or related to isotope half-life. Deviations of different lots may occur.

Safety & Compliance

The mass spectrum is consistent with the proposed structure and a non-labeled reference; the HPLC retention time is consistent with a non-labeled reference. For research and development use only, not for use in humans. This compound could induce cancer.

Frequently asked Questions

  • Muscimol is a naturally occurring psychoactive isoxazole derivative that acts as a potent, central neurotoxin and GABAergic agent. It is primarily derived from poisonous mushrooms of the Amanita genus, most notably the iconic fly agaric (Amanita muscaria), Amanita pantherina and Amanita gemmata. In these fungi, muscimol is produced endogenously via the decarboxylation of ibotenic acid during drying, aging, or metabolic conversion.
